Swim like A Fish - TANG Wai Lok

“Speeding in the water is my favourite feeling!” TANG Wai Lok often said, the “Little Flying Fish”of the swimming team. Wai Lok’s routine is like a circular route, going back and forth between school and pool. Although the life after being initiated into the elite team is hard and tiring, his passion for swimming did not weakened. Solely because his love of rushing in the water, made the “Little Flying Fish” what he is today.

Within a short period of time, Wai Lok has achieved outstanding results. However, he is unexpectedly living with little stress. “I do get a little nervous but I will not get over stressed.” He said with a smile. This is because he has been in countless competitions and has gotten used to the judges and spectators. Thus, he now enjoys every competition, and the feeling of sprinting underwater. He always reminds himself “Just do your best will be fine!” rather than blindly pushing himself for advancement.

Before becoming one of the stars of the swimming team, Wai Lok has been doing his best to surpass his teammates one after another. Before he can realize it, he has already surpassed his targets of both national and international mainstream swimmers and became the best in the team. In addition to regulating himself psychologically, Wai Lok also sets reasonable targets and achieves them step by step. No wonder he is now on the way to becoming an exceptional swimmer.

Opponents are also teachers to Wai Lok and he willingly made friends with Hong Kong mainstream swimmers and learned from their swimming formsand skills. What’s more, he studies himself after every competition in the video records filmed by his mother. He does not look at how fast he is swimming or how many rivals he has overtook. He looks at himself and the performance of his opponents for improvements. As Sun Tzu’s saying goes, “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result…”Wai Lok’s effort clearly pays off with that.

"Those little fish, swimming here and there, are very graceful. That is expression of their happiness."remarked by Chuang Tzu. Happiness of a fish comes from being able to swim freely in the water. Clearly, “Little Flying Fish” Wai Lok has found the bedrock of his happiness.
