While Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games (the Paralympics) is still in progress, our table tennis player WONG Ting Ting, one of the delegations taking part in the Paralympics for the first time, won the bronze medal in Women’s Singles TT11.

WONG Ting Ting took down French player Lea FERNEY and last gold medalist Natalya KOSMINA from Ukraine in group match and secured a place in final four with 2-1 win-lose. Although she lost to RPC player Elena PROKOFEVA with 1-3 (11:9, 5:11, 6:11, 8:11) in the semi-finals, she won the first medal for Hong Kong given that there is no bronze medal match.

Aged 17, WONG Ting Ting is a rising table tennis star in the intellectual disability group. She won silver medal in Brisbane 2019 INAS Global Games and PTT Polish Open 2020 respectively as well as a bronze medal in Egypt Para Open 2020. Now, WONG comes in fourth and second in Women’s Singles TT11 world and Asian ranking.

We are grateful that Ting Ting has brought pride to Hong Kong and we look forward to her success could arouse public awareness in athletes with intellectual or other disabilities that would foster local sports’ development by joining people from all walks of life, with and without disabilities.

Last but not least, we wish those who are still competing in the Paralympics ever success.
